Stander wins Cape epic


South African Burry Stander and Swiss partner Christoph Sauser have won the seventh and final stage to clinch their second successive victory in the Absa Cape Epic mountainbike race.

Stander and Sauser dominated the last stage, a 64km leg which ended at Lourensford Wine Estate in the Western Cape, to cross the line in an overall time of 31 hours, 46 minutes, 50 seconds after eight days of racing.

The all-South African duo of Kevin Evans and David George finished second in 32:14.12, with the German-Swiss team of Hannes Genze and Andreas Kugler taking third place overall in 32:17.57.
