St Georges Park secures entire CSA T20 series

AlgoaFM Sport

The iconic St George's Park cricket stadium in Nelson Mandela Bay will host the entire up-coming CSA T20 series in a major boost for Eastern Cape cricket.

Eight South African provincial teams will play 31 matches between Monday, 7 February and Sunday 27 February.

Participating teams in the CSA T20 series are Gbet Rocks, Gbet Warriors, Momentum Multiply Titans, Six Gun Grill Western Province, Hollywood Dolphins, Imperial Lions, Itec Knights, and North West Dragons.

The 21-member teams consisting of players, reserves, coaches, doctors and other support staff will all be housed in a secure bio bubble for the duration of the tournament.

"It has been some time since our iconic stadium and the cricket loving people of the Eastern Cape have seen a competition of this nature and intensity and we can't wait to host the tournament," said Cricket Eastern Cape ("Warriors") Chairman Judge Ronnie Pillay.

A further boost for sports tourism in Nelson Mandela Bay is that the matches will be televised, which will bring broadcasting crews to the city for an entire month.

Good news for cricket fans is that St George's Park is also planning to admit spectators although numbers will be limited by Covid-19 restrictions and Cricket South Africa protocols.

Fans will be treated to two action-packed games a day, starting at 10 in the morning and at 2.30 in the afternoon.

"It will be an intense month of cricket with double-headers being played over 15 days, culminating in the final on Sunday 27 February," said Warriors CEO, Dr Mark Williams
