St George's Park in Nelson Mandela Bay is gearing up for the Sunfoil Boxing Day five-day cricket test match between South Africa and Sri Lanka.
The last Boxing Day test match in the city was back in 2013.
EP Cricket President, Donovan May said they want the Boxing Day test match to be hosted permanently in Port Elizabeth to attract holidaymakers during the festive season.
May said a successful hosting of the test match would ensure that the city was allocated more cricket tests in the future.
"The Boxing Day test doesn't have a home as yet, that is why we have been holding it in between Durban and Port Elizabeth. It does not have a permanent home. It is either going to be Port Elizabeth or Durban. I think the public has also been crying out for international cricket, this is a chance for them to come out and support this" He said.
"St George’s Park is one of only 5 Test grounds in South Africa and in order to make sure we get allocated Test Matches on a regular basis we need to fill the stadium and create an atmosphere and vibe that is like none other," May said.
EP Cricket is appealing to cricket fans to come and support the Proteas.
"After a very successful tour to Australia the Proteas are currently ranked 5th on the ICC Test Ranking and are a formidable team. We are looking forward to giving our fans a great experience both on and off the field" he said.
Ticket are now on sale.
