The iconic St George's Park cricket stadium in Nelson Mandela Bay is less than two week's away from hosting its first-ever match in the ICC Women's T20 World Cup.
Just days after fans filled the stadium to back the Sunrisers Eastern Cape in the Betway SA20, images of St George's Park will once again be beamed to an international audience when this global showpiece is played in South Africa for the first time.
St George's Park was selected as one of only three venues for the tournament - the others being Cape Town and Paarl - and hosts its first match on Valentine's Day when the defending champions Australia take on Bangladesh.
"Fans will find that St George's Park has a completely new look for the Women's T20 World Cup," says Dr Mark Williams, Chair of the Nelson Mandela Bay Local Organizing Committee.
"Its another chapter in St George's proud history - in 1960 the stadium hosted the first international cricket match involving South Africa women, when they played a test against England which ended in a draw," said Dr Williams.
"Our world-class grounds team led by Adie Carter has been working day and night after the Betway SA20 fixtures to ensure that St George's Park Cricket Stadium remains a sought-after venue for local and international matches and series."
The Momentum Proteas have the honour of playing the first match of the ICC Women's T20 World Cup when they take on Sri Lanka in Cape Town on Friday 10 February.
The fixtures for St George's Park include a mouth-watering double-header featuring the top-four teams in the women's game on Saturday 18 February.
