Southern Kings sweat on injuries

Southern Kings head coach Deon Davids has said  a number of the Vodacom Super Rugby players were still battling with injuries.

Davids confirmed that both Edgar Marutlulle and Sti Sithole would not be available for selection ahead of the match against the Emirates Lions on the weekend. Marutlulle picked up a knee injury, while Sithole was battling with an elbow injury.

Davids confirmed that both starting locks, namely captain Steven Sykes and JC Astle, who had sustained light concussions during the game against the Vodacom Bulls, were still being evaluated and a call would be made around their availability on Saturday .

“Both are still being evaluated in line with the head injury protocols by our medical team,” he said.

Davids said he was hopeful that both would be available.

"On the positive side, Thembelani Boli has been cleared and Shane Gates is back at centre," he said.

Davids will name his team on Thursday with kick off at 17h05 at the NMB Stadium on Saturday.

The curtain raiser at 2pm will be the Currie Cup derby between the EP Kings and the Border Bulldogs.
