South African wins Comrades Marathon first time in 7 years

Ludwick Mamabolo broke the foreign stranglehold on the Comrades Marathon, to win the 89km 'down' run from Pietermaritzburg to Durban on Sunday.

Mamobolo, who finished second in 2010, took the lead in the 87th edition of the race after four hours of running to secure victory in a time of 5 hours, 31 minutes and 3 seconds.

Another South African, Bongmusa Mthembu came second.
