Son of De Wet Barry former Springbok Centre dies


Tributes are pouring in for 2-year-old DJ Barry, son of former Springbok Centre and EP Kings Captain. De Wet Barry died in a Port Elizabeth hospital this morning after complications arising from a lung infection.

De Wet and his wife Marcelle received messages of condolence from scores of people on Twitter, including fellow springboks Bryan Habana and John Smit, assistant Springbok coach Gary Gold, and the Sharks Rugby Union.

The EP Rugby Union also sent its condolensces to the Barry family through its CEO Anele Pamba.

Debbie Ellis at EP Rugby told AlgoaFM news that young DJ had contracted a cold which had developed into pneumonia. One of his lungs collapsed last week and he tragically passed away early today after his other lung also became infected.
