Snyman unhappy with Blitzboks performance in Dubai

Springbok Sevens head coach Philip Snyman said he was not pleased with his team’s sixth place at the Emirates Dubai 7s this weekend.

In a post-match statement, he pointed to their inability to secure and keep possession as the area that will need work for next weekend’s HSBC SVNS Cape Town at DHL Stadium.

Snyman said a change in the format means there will be no room for error in the Cape Town tournament, but he remained positive that the Blitzboks will be able to turn things around.

He said some aspects of their play in Dubai were satisfactory, such as finishing top of Pool A on day one, but he lamented the two close defeats to New Zealand and France.

“We gave away so much possession, it is almost unreal,” said Snyman.

He also said the defensive effort was also disappointing with a number of one-on-one tackles that were ineffective and resulted in tries for their opponents.

HSBC SVNS Cape Town pools:

A: Fiji, Great Britain, Uruguay

B: Spain, Australia, Kenya

C: South Africa, Argentina, Ireland

D: New Zealand, France, USA
