Caster Semenya will make her international debut in the 400m at the final meeting of the 2016 Diamond League series in Brussels on Friday night.
Broadcast starts at 7.45pm on SuperSport 7 and 9 with Semenyaâs race scheduled to start at 8.22pm.
After storming to the SA title in a personal best of 50.74 in April, Semenya was entertaining the idea of doubling up with the 400m heading to Rio. After careful consideration, she decided to ditch the one-lap race to concentrate on winning gold in the 800m.
Having never run this distance outside the country, her PB has her ranked as low as 2 036 on the all-time fastest times list.
Expect her to swiftly move up the rankings when she tests herself against world-class sprinters like Natasha Hastings, Stephanie Ann McPherson, Courtney Okolo and Shericka Jackson whoâve all dipped comfortably under 49.95.
Other South Africans taking part in Fridayâs meeting include Olympic long jump silver medalist, Luvo Manyongo, who jumps from 8.45pm, Wenda Nel in the womenâs 400m hurdles (8.04pm) and Carina Horn in the womenâs 100m (8.13pm). â African News Agency (ANA)
