Phil Salt smashed 11 fours in his knock of 77 as the Pretoria Capitals beat the Sunrisers Eastern Cape by 23 runs in their opening SA20 clash at a packed St George’s Park on Thursday night.

Salt was ably supported by PC Captain, Wayne Parnell, who smashed 29 off nine balls that included three sixes and two fours.

Sunrisers Captain, Aiden Markram, won the toss and chose to bowl first in a rain-interrupted spell in which the visitors posted an imposing 193 for 6, leaving the home side to score at 9.65 runs to the over for victory.

Jon-Jon Smuts was really the only one to put up a fight, scoring 66 off 51 balls. His knock included six fours and four sixes.

Tom Abell made 40 not out at the end while home-boy, Tristan Stubbs scored 23 from 11 balls and James Fuller contributed 27, as the Sunrisers managed 170 for 5 at the end of 20 overs.

In the bowling department, Markram and Ottniel Baartman took two wickets each, while Sisanda Magala and Marco Jansen took the remaining two.
