Sale Sharks' Twitter
One of the oldest English rugby clubs, Sale Sharks has taken to social media to defend their player, Tom Curry.
This follows the past weekend's defeat against the Springboks, in a nail-biting victory in France for a spot in the Rugby World Cup 2023 final.
During the match, Tom Curry made an allegation that Boks Hooker Bongi Mbonambi used discriminatory or racist language while they were on the field.
The Boks' one-point victory has since been overshadowed by a social media volcano with users spewing hate, anger and frustration on various platforms.
In a brief statement on Wednesday, Sale Sharks' said they were absolutely appalled by the nature and level of disgusting abuse directed at Curry and his family following the incident at the World Cup Semi-final.
"Everyone at the club stands fully and proudly behind Tom and we look forward to welcoming him back to Carrington," it said.
World Rugby on Tuesday confirmed that an allegation was made and said it would be investigated.
On Wednesday Mbonambi looked relaxed as he stepped out with his teammates for a training session in Paris.
The Boks will play old rivals New-Zealand on Saturday.
Kick-off is at 9 pm.
