Rugby development in Eastern Cape is to benefit greatly from the EPRU sanctioned All Saints Rugby Sevens taking place at St. Dominic’s Priory School on Thursday 21 and Friday 22 June 2012.
The tournament is preceded by two coaching clinics on Wednesday 20 June at the school, and the events will include a SuperSport corporate dinner on Wednesday.
Sixteen teams are taking part in the tournament – ten second-tier schools and six development teams.
EPRU president Cheeky Watson, says the event is without doubt one of the most important initiatives in respect of focussed rugby development in the Eastern Cape thus far.
“Involving second-tier schools and development teams in a major project like this, with sound sponsorships, bides much good for rugby development in the region. Let us hope this is a major breakthrough encouraging the school community and private enterprise to take hands increasingly to promote this wonderful cause.”
He expressed the hope that the event will be a huge success and that the All Saints Sevens will become a regular feature on the EPRU rugby calendar.
PG Glass is the main sponsor of the event, supported by Finro Jumbo Cash & Carry.
The tournament starts both days at 08:00 and kicks off on Thursday with a Pool A match between Framesby High School and Alexander Road High School, with the last of 24 matches played on day one the one between Victoria Park High School and Humansdorp High School in Pool D scheduled for 16:00.
The bowl and shield quarter finals start at 08:00 on Friday, followed by the cup and plate quarter finals at 09:40.
These are followed by the semi-finals: shield at 11:20, bowl at 12:10, plate at 12:55 and cup at 13:45.
The finals starts at 14:35 with the shield final, followed by the bowl final at 15:00 and the plate final at 15:25.
The cup final kicks off at 15:50.
Matches are divided into two halves of seven minutes each and will be refereed by members of the EPRU Referees Association.
The participating teams are:
Pool A: Framesby High School, Alexander Road High School, Ithembelithle High School, Cillie High School.
Pool B: DF Malherbe High School, Saints (St Dominic’s Priory School and St. George’s College combined), Kirkwood High School, Otto du Plessis High School.

A beer tent and food stalls will provide refreshments all day, and SuperSport presenter Kobus Wiese will hand over the prizes at 17:00 on Friday.
? A SuperSport corporate dinner takes place on Wednesday at 18:30 at St. Dominic’s. It will include draws, auction of autographed rugby jerseys and live entertainment.
Tickets are available at R150 per person and bookings can be made with Maryn on 078 032 3740 or Gaynor on 082 459 5730.
The proceeds of the 3-day event will be donated in aid of rugby development at Ithembelihle High School in New Brighton. Rugby players from the Transkei are put up close to the school while attending classes and playing rugby for Ithembelihle High School.
Fulvio Falco, owner of PG Glass Port Elizabeth Auto, says it is important for them to put something back into the community that support them and sponsoring the All Saints Sevens is one way to do it.
“PG Glass sincerely hopes that this involvement will make a meaningful contribution to much needed rugby development in the Eastern Cape and that some of the players taking part next week will go on to represent Eastern Province and maybe even South Africa.”
