CAPE TOWN, March (ANA) – South Africa’s Blitzboks were hammered 33-14 by traditional rivals New Zealand in their final pool match at the Vancouver leg of the World Sevens Series on Saturday evening (Sunday morning, SA time).
As a result, the Blitzboks finished runners-up in Pool D and it marked the first time that the South Africans didn't win their pool this season.
Prior to these this match, SA defeated Russia (38-7) and Scotland (21-0).
Against NZ, early tries by the Islanders blew the South Africans away and by halftime, they were 21-0 ahead.
From that point onwards, the Blitzboks were left chasing the game they managed two converted tries in the second half while NZ added 12 more points during the same time.
South Africa will now face Australia in the quarterfinals on Sunday. The victor will face the winner of Fiji - Argentina match-up in the semifinals.
