SA Relay team gets another chance

Double-amputee runner Oscar Pistorius will get a shot at an Olympic medal after all, after his South African team failed to finish the heats of the 4x400 relay.

A jury of appeal ruled that South Africa "had been severely damaged" in a collision between Ofentse Mogawane and a Kenyan runner who cut across him too soon in the second section of Thursday morning's heat.
South Africa crashed out of the race with the baton not even getting to the Blade Runner.

The jury of appeal decided to give the extra ninth lane to South Africa for the final which will be run at 20 past ten SA time on Friday evening.

Sunette Viljoen finished out of the medals in 4th place in the javelin.

However, Caster Semenya powered her way into tomorrow's 800-metre final - running her best race of the season in a time of one minute, 57.67 seconds.

Earlier in the day, Bridgitte Hartly rowed a superb race to grab the bronze medal for South Africa in the women's kayak K1 500 metre sprint.

Sadly, Port Elizabeth's Jessica Roux dropped out of the women's 10-kilometre open water swim on the fourth of six laps of the grueling event on the Serpentine lake in Hyde Park.
