RUGBY-JOOST: Rugby legend Van der Westhuizen now dependent on oxygen to survive – reports

ANA Sports Reporter

JOHANNESBURG, January 20 (ANA) – Springbok rugby legend Joost van der Westhuizen looks like he is fast running out of time as he fights his debilitating motor neurone disease.

YOU magazine has reported that he is now dependent on oxygen to survive.

Van der Westhuizen, one of the 1995 World Cup winners, has had the disease since 2011.

The magazine reports that he has been reliant on oxygen for some time, but they opted to keep the news quiet for the sake of his children, Jordan (12) and Kylie (10), whom he had with singer and presenter Amor Vittone.

Toks van der Linde, a former Springbok and presenter of Toks en Tjops, shared a heartfelt message for his friend on Facebook on Friday.

“In your prayers please think of the legend tonight,” Toks wrote.

On Thursday night singer Arno Jordaan tweeted: “Think of the fighter and his family tonight. Things are very bad for Joost. You’ve battled for as long time, fighter; just hang in there.” – African News Agency (ANA)
