Rare hattrick for Proteas in Test-series win over Windies

Keshav celebrates his hat-trick with Aiden Markram

Cricket South Africa

A stunning hat-trick on the stroke of lunch by Keshav Maharaj helped set up South Africa for a 158 run victory over the West Indies on Monday.

Needing 324 for victory on day four, the Windies were bowled out for 165 as the Proteas completed a 2-nil Test series win in St Lucia.

The hosts were looking solid at 107 for three when Maharaj struck.

He removed opener Kieran Powell for 51, Jason Holder first ball and then Joshua da Silva with the hat-trick delivery as Wiaan Mulder took a one handed stunner at leg slip.

It was South Africa’s first Test hat-trick since Geoff Griffin’s effort against England at Lords in June of 1960.

The teams now take a short break before the five-match T20 International series begins on 26 June.
