Standard Bank Proteas fast bowler, Kagiso Rabada, has been ruled out for up to three months with a lower back stress reaction.
Rabada felt tightness and discomfort during the fourth Sunfoil Test match against Australia at the Wanderers with subsequent scans revealing the injury.
Proteas team manager, Dr Mohammed Moosajee says the world's number one ranked test bowler will need a month’s break from all physical activity before commencing with a rehabilitation programme to get him ready for the series in Sri Lanka in July.
The Sri Lanka series includes two test matches, five one day internationals, and a lone T20 international.
Rabada will thus be unavailable for the Delhi Daredevils in the upcoming Indian Premier League.
