South Africa beat West Indies by 87 runs in the first Betway test match at Supersport Park in Centurion thanks in part to the exploits of Kagiso Rabada.
He led the Proteas' charge on day three, taking six wickets for 50 runs as the visitors were dismissed for 159 in their second innings.
Anrich Nortjie also got another five-wicket haul in the first innings and bagged another wicket in the second to see the home side take the lead in the series.
South Africa put on a total of 342 in the first innings, thanks largely to the 115 runs from Sunrisers Eastern Cape captain and Player of the Match, Aiden Markram, supported by 71 from former test captain, Dean Elgar.
The pair failed to repeat the top-order performance in the second innings where the Proteas mustered 116 runs.
The West Indies, in turn, scored 212 in their first innings and were bowled out for 159 in the second. Raymon Reifer, with 62 in the first innings, and Jermain Blackwood, with 79 runs in the second innings, provided the only real resistance.
Speaking post-match on Supersport, newly appointed test captain, Temba Bavuma, said the win “felt good” adding that is what they came to do.
“Obviously we wanted to start off the series and win it in that fashion. It’s a big, massive positive for us,” he said.
The second test starts in Johannesburg from 8 March.
