The powerful Proteas bowling attack cleaned up New Zealand’s tail to give South Africa an innings-and-27 run victory over the visitors before tea on the third day of the first Test in Cape Town.
New Zealand was dismissed for 275 in their second innings after a dismal 45 all out in their first knock.
Dale Steyn took three wickets while Vernon Philander and Jacques Kallis took two apiece.
Morne Morkel and Robin Peterson took the remaining two wickets.
The only real resistance in their second innings came from Dean Brownlie who notched up his maiden test century.
He was eventually caught off Morne Morkel for 109.
Skipper Brendan McCullum contributed 51 and Bradley John Watling 42.
South Africa made 347 for eight, declared in their only innings.
Vernon Philander was named Man of the Match for his phenomenal bowling performance of five for seven on day one.
The second test gets underway at Axxess St Georges next Friday.
