The Proteas kept their hopes alive in the One Day International series following a comprehensive 111 run victory over Australia at JB Marks Oval in Potchefstroom on Tuesday.

An unbeaten 102 from Aiden Markram, supported by Quinton de Kock with 82 off 77 balls and Temba Bavuma, with 57 off 62 balls, helped South Africa to 338 for 6 in their 50 overs.

Reeza Hendricks made 39 off 45 deliveries, while Marco Jansen contributed with 32 runs off 16 balls.

The visitors made a swashbuckling start to the run chase with David Warner and Travis Head smashing the South African bowlers around the park during the first power play, before Sisanda Magala got the breakthrough, dismissing, Head for 38 off 24 balls.

But it was opener partner, David Warner who put on a show at the top of the order, smashing 78 off 56 balls, that included three sixes and ten boundaries.

It was up to the South African spinners, Tabraiz Shamsi and Keshav Maharaj, to put the brakes on the Australian onslaught, taking four wickets between them.

Australia was eventually bundle out for 227 in reply to the South African total, opening the door for the home-side in the series after two comprehensive victories in Bloemfontein.

The teams square up again on Friday in Pretoria for the fourth ODI before the final match in Johannesburg on Sunday.
