Proteas number 1 in all formats

Hashim Amla inflicted another record-breaking hundred on England as South Africa won the second ODI by 80 runs in Southampton on Tuesday.

Amla's 150 saw him become the fastest player to reach 3,000 ODI runs as he reached the landmark in just his 57th innings compared to the 69 it took West Indies great Vivian Richards.

It was also the highest individual score in ODI matches between South Africa and England, and the cornerstone of the Proteas' 287/5, made after captain AB de Villiers won the toss.

England in reply were dismissed for 207, with more than nine overs remaining.

Victory saw South Africa take a 1-0 lead in this five-match series following Friday's washout in Cardiff and ended England's run of 10 straight wins in completed one-dayers.

The series continues at The Oval on Friday.

The victory saw South Africa supplant England at the top of the ODI rankings and the Proteas are now the first team to be ranked first in all three formats of the game.

Meanwhile Australia managed to record a shaky four-wicket win over Pakistan in the first limited overs international at Sharjah Stadium on Tuesday.

Pakistan could only manage a score of 198 as Michel Stark took his maiden 5-wicket haul.

The Aussies then recovered from 67/4 to finish on 199/ 6 in 48.2 overs as they made heavy weather of the run chase.
