The Proteas more than made up for their shock loss to the Netherlands in the Cricket World Cup by thumping defending champions England by 229 runs in Mumbai on Saturday.
South Africa produced a complete performance with bat and ball in stifling heat that took its toll on players, amassing 399 runs in their 50 overs, after being put into bat by England.
Quinton de Kock lost his wicket early, which saw Reeza Hendricks, who had not played in the tournament and included at the last minute, came to the crease and blasted 85 runs off 75 balls, while Rassie van der Dussen made 60 runs.
Heinrich Klaasen produced a Man of the Match performance, smashing 109 runs from 67 balls, while Aiden Markram made 42 off 44 deliveries.
The South African batting performance was backed up by the bowling attack, with England bowled out for 170 runs in just 22 overs.
Gerald Coetzee took three wickets for 35 runs, while Lungi Ngidi and Marco Jansen each got a brace and Kagiso Rabada and Keshav Maharaj took one wicket each.
Speaking post-match, Klaasen described his innings in the heat as one of his best.
"The conditions were brutal out there today, so it would go down as one of my better ones,” he said.
Klaasen and stand-in Captain Aiden Markram, paid tribute to Marco Jansen, with Klaasen dedicating his award to his teammate.
“This award should go to him, for helping to keep me going. He said I can’t go off the field without a hundred".
Markram also praised Reeza Hendricks, saying he was pleased that he could get a game and put in a good performance.
“It was a great way to bounce back from the Netherlands defeat,” Markram said.
The Proteas next game is on Tuesday against Bangladesh.
