Proteas arrive to warm welcome in PE

The Proteas arrived at the Port Elizabeth International Airport on Thursday to a warm welcome from local fans, as well as the famous St George's Park band.

The Proteas play Sri Lanka in the Boxing Day test, the first of their three test tour, five One Day Internationals and three T20 matches.

Proteas bowler, Kagiso Rabada, said he was happy to be back in South Africa and was looking forward to the match against Sri Lanka. "We've come off a nice tour in Australia, so we are just looking to go from strength to strength."

"We are looking forward to playing in front of our home fans and hopefully putting on a good show against Sri Lanka," said opening batsman, Stephen Cook.

His opening partner, Dean Elgar, said the match against Sri Lanka in PE should be a good encounter. The batsman said it would have been very unfortunate if captain, Faf Du Plessis, did not play as the whole team was banking on him.

Du Plessis lost his ICC appeal against a ball tampering charge, but was cleared to play against Sri Lanka.

Diminutive batsman, Themba Bavuma, who hasn't played at St Georges in a while, said he does not know what to expect. "We will see what happens on the day. We are going to start our preparations, we are looking forward to the challenge and everything that comes with playing against the Sri Lankans."

"It is good to have our captain. I guess we can put everything to bed, everything that happened in Australia. Now we can concentrate on the cricket side of things," the bowler added.

"It is always good to have Faf in the team, it is always a big influence to what we do.  Also it's just nice to have everybody around for selection," said Quinton De Kock

The star wicket-keeper batsman said he hopes that he shows good form as it has been a while since he has played.

De Kock has also been named as the ICC ODI Cricketer of the Year.

He is the second South African player after AB de Villiers, and ninth overall to clinch this award.

In the voting period, De Kock scored 793 runs in 16 ODI's with four centuries and a half-century.

He averaged over 56 and held a strike-rate of just under 98.

With the gloves, De Kock dismissed 15 batsmen behind the wickets.
