Sharon Jessop, an endurance athlete from Port Elizabeth, is closing in on the current Guinness World Record of 75 consecutive half marathons.

She set out on the 22nd of September, which was World Rhino Day,  on a Guinness World Record run attempt to run 101 consecutive half marathon distances.

This Sunday,  6 December, when Jessop completes her 76th consecutive half marathon, she will be the unofficial Guinness World Record Holder.

But the running will not stop there as Jessop is adamant to finish her 101 consecutive half marathons on the 31st of December when the final run will take place from Kragga Kamma Game Park just outside Port Elizabeth.

“We’ve endured all kinds of weather as is standard for Port Elizabeth, and I’ve had a couple of niggles but no real injuries, so I am very blessed and grateful for that,” said Jessop.

“The Port Elizabeth running community have been amazing and the best part of this journey other than representing the two best organizations ever, is the amazing people that I’ve met and the amazing stories of human triumph over adversary that I’ve heard.”

Jessop added that it’s the people who make this journey so much more rewarding and that she’s truly looking forward to the next few weeks.

Her aim with this Guinness World Record run attempt is to raise awareness and funds for the One Land Love It foundation for rhino conservation and anti-poaching and also for the Community Chest of the Eastern Cape.
