As she prepares to take the stage at the Olympic Qualifier Series in May and June this year, the South African break-dancer reflects on a journey that began with an encounter at a dance fundraiser nine years ago.

How it started

At the age of 21, B-Girl Mids witnessed three women break dancing at a local dance fundraiser, igniting a spark that would set her on an extraordinary path.

Inspired by the captivating energy and creativity of breakdancing, she resolved to learn from these pioneers and embarked on a journey that would lead her to the Olympic stage.

Fast forward to the present, and B-Girl Mids has become a force to be reckoned with in the breakdancing community.

Achievements

Having honed her skills for nine years, she has not only embraced the art form but has also become a RedBull BC One South African champion in 2022, solidifying her status as one of the world's premier break-dancers.

In a remarkable feat, B-Girl Mids secured the 2nd position at the Olympic African Breaking Continental Qualifier, a testament to her unwavering dedication and skill. What sets her apart is not only her achievements but the fact that she entered the world of breakdancing with no prior experience in gymnastics or bodyweight sports, requiring her to work even harder to reach the pinnacle of her craft.

The rhythmic beats of 1970s funk music serve as B-Girl Mids' muse and inspiration, shaping her unique style and contributing to the authenticity of her performances. From childhood dreams to the present, the aspiring Olympian has held onto the ambition of representing her country on the grandest stage.

As the Olympic Games loom on the horizon in August 2024, B-Girl Mids is gearing up to represent SA at the Olympic Qualifier Series in May and June. Her journey, fueled by passion and determination, encapsulates the spirit of breaking barriers and redefining what is possible in the world of dance.

Remarkably, B-Girl Mids learned the foundations of breaking from teachers but took the initiative to teach herself the more advanced moves, showcasing not only her talent but her ability to adapt and innovate within the dynamic world of breakdancing.

In a world where every move tells a story, B-Girl Mids is crafting a narrative of resilience, triumph, and the unyielding pursuit of a dream. As the Olympic Qualifier Series approaches, the world watches in anticipation as this extraordinary break-dancer prepares to make history on the global stage.
