Proteas Women fell short for the second time in the final of the ICC T20I World Cup, losing by 32 runs to New Zealand in Dubai on Sunday.
South Africa won the toss and elected to bowl in their second successive final at the Dubai Sports City Cricket Stadium, following wins and losses in their last four clashes against the White Ferns.
New Zealand got off to a strong start with opener, Suzanna Bates making 32 off 31 deliveries and later Amelia Kerr smashed 43 off 38 balls, supported by Brooke Holliday (38 off 28) helped the White Ferns to 158 for 5 in their 20 overs.
The South African opener, Laura Wolvaardt made 33 runs while Tazmin Britz scored 17 off 18 balls.
Chloe-Lesleigh Tryon (14 off 16 balls), and Annerie Dercksen with 10, were the only other two batters to make double figures.
The Proteas Women, in a post on X after the match, congratulated New Zealand, saying “Today wasn’t our day”, while thanking the country for the support during the tournament.
