Ndoro again as Pirates claim three victories in a row

PORT ELIZABETH, November 22 (ANA) – Orlando Pirates edged a spirited Chippa United outfit 1-0 in their Absa Premiership contest at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium on Tuesday evening.

Tendai Ndoro’s ninth league goal of the campaign was enough to hand new coach Augusto Palacios his third victory in as many games.

It was a result that lifted the Buccaneers into fifth place, while it left Chippa down in 10th.

The Soweto side looked the sharper of the two early on and went ahead in the 21st minute courtesy of their in-form striker Ndoro. Mpho Makola played in Amigo Memela, who lashed the ball across the box for the Zimbabwean to tap home.

Ten minutes before the break the Chilli Boys had a golden opportunity to equalise after a shot from Thembinkosi Lorch was parried by Pirates goalkeeper, Jackson

On the hour mark Katlego Mashego cut inside and curled an effort toward goal, but Mabokgwane was well behind the ex-Sundowns man’s effort.

“I think first half and second half were two different games. But I’m happy with the effort and with the team. We have quality in the squad,” Pirates coach Palacios said.

“We had a few defensive errors that cost us. If we make a team like Pirates defend then you know it’s just a matter of time,” added the Chippa coach Dan Malesela. – African News Agency (ANA)
