Nadal and Murray reach second round of Wimbledon

Two-time winner Rafael Nadal and British hope Andy Murray reached the Wimbledon second round on Tuesday, but Australia's men slumped to their country's worst performance since 1938.

Nadal enjoyed a 7-6 6-2 6-3 victory over Brazil's Thomaz Bellucci despite having trailed 4-0 in the first set.

Fourth seed Murray silenced Nikolay Davydenko's taunts that he regularly exaggerates his injuries with an easy 6-1, 6-1 6-4 win.

Four-time champion Serena Williams reached the second round with a 6-2, 6-4 win over Barbora Strycova of the Czech Republic.

Defending champion Petra Kvitova progressed four and four against Akgul Aman-mura-dova of Uzbekistan.

Lleyton Hewitt's lost in straight sets to French fifth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga - his earliest exit at the All England Club since 2003.

His loss also meant that there will be no Australian man in the second round for the first time since 1938 after compatriots
Bernard Tomic, Matthew Ebdon and Marinko Matosevic were also beaten.

South Africa's Kevin Anderson exited in the first round as well, losing for the second time in two weeks to Bulgaria's Grigor Dimitrov - 7 5 7 6 6 7 6 3

We also have no-one left in the singles after Chanelle Scheepers lost her opener 7 6 7 6 to Kazak wild card Yaroslava Shvedova.
