Andy Murray survived a gruelling examination from Spain's David Ferrer to reach the Wimbledon semi-finals for the fourth successive year late on Wednesday with a 6-7 7-6 6-4 7-6 victory on Centre Court.
Murray took 3 hours and 52 minutes to finally subdue the Spaniard and now only French fifth seed Jo-Wilfried Tsonga stands between the world number four and a first Wimbledon final appearance.
Tsonga reached the Wimbledon semi-finals for the second successive year with a 7-6 4-6, 7-6 6-2 win over German 27th seed Philipp Kohlschreiber.
Defending champion Novak Djokovic and six-time winner Roger Federer meet in the other semi-final on Friday.
Both wasted little time in their quarter-final matches yesterday. Federer trounced Mikhail Youzhny 6-1, 6-2, 6-2 in 90 minutes and Djokovic also took the express route against German 31st seed Florian Mayer, recording an emphatic 6-4, 6-1, 6-4 victory.
