The Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s quest for a third BetwaySA20 title ended in defeat at the Wanderers in Johannesburg where MI Cape Town beat the double-defending champions by 76 runs.
Following two seasons at the foot of the table, MI Cape Town captain, Rashid Khan, and his squad lifted the trophy on Saturday after outplaying the Eastern Cape franchise at a sold-out ‘Bullring’.
Batting first, MI Cape Town scored 181 for 8 in their allotted 20 overs, with openers Rassie van der Dussen and Ryan Rickelton anchoring the top order, contributing 23 and 33 respectively.
Connor Esterhuizen and Dewald Brevis contributed 39 and 38 runs in their innings.

Marco Jansen, who was named the 2025 Betway Player of the Series, took two wickets for 39 runs, with Liam Dawson and Richard Gleeson also bagging a brace of wickets each.
The Sunrisers Eastern Cape’s big run chase got off to a stuttering start after David Bedingham and Jordan Hermann, lost their wickets in the early overs, and the hero from the knock-out match against Joburg Super Kings, Toni de Zorzi, only mustering 26 runs.
Tom Abell, with 30 off 25 balls, and Tristan Stubbs, who made a run-a-ball 15, were the only players to make double figures for the former champions.
Meanwhile, Paarl Royals young star, Lhuan-dre Pretorius was named the Batter of the Season, and Dewald Brevis was named Rising Star for the 2025 season.
The DP World Dispatch of the Season award went to Donovan Ferreira of Joburg Super Kings, while the Absa Card Catch of the Season went to Dewald Brevis.
