JOHANNESBURG, June 20 (ANA) – Just one over was possible before the rain came down causing the contest to be called off in the Tri-Nation One Day International (ODI) between South Africa and Australia at the Kensington Oval, in Barbados, on Sunday.
Ultimately the match was called off as the rain persisted as both teams shared the points. South Africa had reached 8/0 after losing the toss and being sent in to bat first.
It was the 200th ODI for Proteas captain AB de Villiers, and like in his 100th Test for his country rain had the final say.
It means that South Africa moved to 12 points, one ahead of the Australians and four clear of West Indies. The Proteas were also denied the chance of booking their place in Sunday’s final – a win would have secured that.
The Proteas must now play the hosts in their final game of the regular competition at the same venue on Friday.
