Manchester City crash out of Europe

Schalke 04 claimed top spot in their final Champions League Group B match with a 1-1 draw at French champions Montpellier last night.

The Germans, already through to the knock-out round, ensured they go into the draw as group leaders with a two-point advantage on second-placed Arsenal, who fell 2-1 at Greek side Olympiakos.

Borussia Dortmund beat Manchester City 1-0 - ending the English champions' chances of reaching the Europa League.

Dortmund was already assured of winning Champions League Group D, while City needed a victory to qualify for European football's second-tier club competition.
But City didn't win a match all season to finish one point behind Ajax, which lost 4-1 at Real Madrid, the group runner-up.
