Manchester City made the most of Manchester United dropping points against Everton on Sunday to move within three points of the Premier League leaders by beating Wolves.
Everton twice came from two goals behind in an extraordinary 4-4 draw away to United at Old Trafford - Stephen Pienaar scoring Everton's 4th with 5 minutes to play.
City then won 2-0 against Wolves to relegate the Black Country club and revive their bid for a first English title in 44 years.
Elsewhere, Liverpool's league campaign took a fresh turn for the worse as West Brom enjoyed their first win at Anfield in 45 years with a one-nil victory.
