The former Springboks and Sharks coach, Ian McIntosh, has passed away.
The 84-year-old coached the Boks in 1993 and 1994 and he would go on to serve on the selection committee for the national team.
Apart from working with the national side McIntosh became a legend in his own right in Durban through his coaching work with the Sharks in the 1980s and 1990s.
He famously guided the Sharks to their first Currie Cup title in 1990.
In 1993 and 1994, McIntosh coached the Springboks in 12 Tests and until last year’s victory, his 1993 Bok team was the last from South Africa to beat the Wallabies in Sydney.
Mac, as he was affectionately known, passed away in a Umhlanga hospital on Wednesday morning after having earlier been diagnosed with cancer.
He leaves behind his wife of 60 years, Rhona and their three sons, Ross, Craig and Evan.
