Proteas and former Dolphins player Kyle Abbott has nominated the Warriors as his franchise for the forthcoming season. The Warriors have not had a Proteas contracted player in their ranks for some time and the addition of Abbott to the team brings a wealth of experience and a fresh approach to the game.
28 year old Kyle was born and bred in Durban and made his first class debut for Kwa Zulu Natal in 2009. He made his Test debut in 2013 against Pakistan where he produced bowling figures of 7/29.
He has played 7 Test Matches, 24 ODI’s and 21 T20 matches for the Proteas. The right arm medium fast bowler who gets the ball to swing at pace is a welcome addition to the Warriors squad.
“I am looking forward to this new challenge and having the opportunity to play for the Warriors will take me out of my comfort zone. I also get to play alongside guys like Andrew Birch and Simon Harmer”said Abbott.
“I am extremely excited about Kyle joining the Warriors. He is a quality fast bowler and and a great guy to have as part of our squad. He will certainly add value both on and off the field, in helping grow our next generation of bowlers”, said Jesse Chellan, CEO of the Warriors.
Coach Mali Maketa, said “One of our main goals is to produce Protea players and to have Kyle come in will help us fast-track this process through his experience and the know how of what it takes to get there. I look forward to working with him and I am positive the other players will learn from having another national player in the changeroom.”
Kyle is currently in India for the IPL with the Kings IX Punjab and will join the Warriors in September for their pre-season.
