Kevin Anderson makes history at US Open

Kevin Anderson will make history on Sunday when he becomes the first South African in more than 50 years to play in the US Open Tennis final.

He earned his place in history with a hard-fought win over Spaniard, Pablo Carreno Busta, winning 4-6, 7-5, 6-3, 6-4.

Supersport.com reports that Anderson, now based in Florida, will be taking part in his maiden major final, where he'll attempt to become his country's first Slam champion since Johan Kriek won the 1981 Australian Open.

Cliff Drysdale was the last South African man in the US final in 1965 but he was defeated by Manuel Santana.

Andersen said in the post-match interview that it had been a “long road”.

He will meet another Spaniard in the final in Rafael Nadal who dispatched Argentine, Juan Martin del Potro, 4-6, 6-0, 6-3, 6-2.
