CAPE TOWN, June 7 (ANA) –The Junior Springboks, after trailing 19-7 at one stage, won their opening match 59-19 against Japan at the World Rugby Under-20 Championship in Manchester, on Tuesday afternoon.
The South Africans were given an almighty scare by Japan after winger Ataata Moeakiola’s hat-trick in the first half, but the 2012 champions came charging back with six second-half tries to run out comfortable winners in the end.
SA captain Jeremy Ward grabbed a double as did rampaging flanker Zain Davids with Manie Libbok, Mosolwa Mafuma, JT Jackson and replacement Carlu Sadie also dotting down.
Japan can hold their heads high and the world certainly knows the name of Moeakiola now. – African News Agency (ANA)
