The Junior Springbok team fine-tuned their preparations in Stellenbosch before travelling to Georgia this weekend for a three-match tour.
The squad of 30 players will leave on Sunday, and will play a club fixture and two international fixtures against their Georgian counterparts.
The first game is next Wednesday against Lelo Saracens, with the two internationals on the 23rd and 28th.
SA Rugby said their preparation for Georgia included "two solid training matches" against the University of Stellenbosch (Maties), and the University of Cape Town (Ikeys), giving the coaching staff an excellent opportunity to gauge the squad’s state of readiness.
“We had an excellent training week, starting with a hit out against [UCT] Ikeys, and we are grateful to them for allowing us to test our skills and we want to wish them and Maties well for their FNB Varsity Cup campaigns,” said head coach Kevin Foote.
Foote said the tour will give the team an important opportunity to test their game management in addition to how to adapt to different playing conditions.
“As a group, we now have an opportunity to experience and enjoy the tour both from a rugby and a cultural perspective, which is something really exciting to look forward to,” he said. “We are looking to make good connections amongst one another, get to know each other better, and play some good rugby.”
