Cricket Eastern Cape has announced that Warriors One Day and T20 captain Jon Jon Smuts will now take over the reigns of the four day team as well - meaning he will captain the Warriors in all three formats of the game.
The season starts with five 4-day Sunfoil Series matches before a domestic break for the new T20 Global League in November and December.
Jon Jon's first assignment as Warriors 4-day captain will be in the opening Sunfoil Series match of the season against the Lions at the Wanderers from Tuesday 19 September.
He says he's looking forward to the challenge and that the team is in a good space, with a number of players fresh from campaigning overseas in the lead-up to the start of the new domestic season.
The 13 man Warriors squad selected for the Wanderers clash is as follows: Andrew Birch, Gihahn Cloete, Clyde Fortuin, Aya Gqamane, Sisanda Magala, Eddie Moore, Lesiba Ngoepe, Anrich Nortje, Jerry Nqolo, Lutho Sipamla, Jon-Jon Smuts-cpt, Yaseen Vallie and David White.
The Kolpak players – Colin Ackermann, Colin Ingram and Simon Harmer will only return to Port Elizabeth next month.
