JBay off WSL calendar for 2024

Jeffreys Bay will not be on the World Surf League calendar for 2024.

The Kouga Municipality says with the Olympic Games in Paris in 2024, a break has been added to the schedule in July.

This is to allow time for qualified athletes, including a team from South Africa, to travel to Tahiti ahead of the Games, where the line-up will be closed for Olympic athletes to practice.

“With this break, the Tour will not host an event in J-Bay or Surf Ranch this season.  This is really unfortunate as it is certainly one of the most favoured destinations on the map and a highlight for Kouga Municipality.”

The Municipality said it was hoped that Jeffreys Bay will be able to once again host the WSL in 2025.

Jeffreys Bay surfer, Matthew McGillivray, is one of four athletes who have been added to the list of surfers who have provisionally qualified for the Paris 2024 Olympic Games.
