India put on a dominant performance to beat South Africa by 61 runs in the first of three Cement T20 Internationals at Hollywoodbets Kingsmead in Durban on Friday night.
Their dominance was underscored by the devastating 107 off 50 deliveries from Player of the Match, Sanju Samson, which included 10 sixes and 7 fours as India posted a total of 202 for 8 in 20 overs.
Namboori Varma made 33 off 18 deliveries while Suryakumar Yadav chipped in with 21 and Rinku Singh with 11.
South African captain Aiden Markram, said they would have loved to have gotten off to a better start with the bat, saying that’s probably where the game was lost.
The pick of the Proteas batsmen was Heinrich Klaasen who could only muster 25 from 22 balls, followed by Gerald Coeetzee who made 23 before he was run out, and Ryan Rickelton who scored 21 off 11 deliveries, including 3 fours and 1 six which was the longest of the evening at 104 metres.
Speaking post-match, Markram said they need to look at ways to mitigate the Indian spinners when the teams meet again on Sunday at St George’s Park in Gqeberha for the second match.
???? Brace yourselves for an unforgettable 2024/25 inbound season where the Proteas will be hosting India, Sri Lanka, and Pakistan! ????????????
