The NMMU Madibaz from Port Elizabeth enjoyed a famous victory in Bloemfontein last night when they beat the Shimlas in the FNB varsity Cup.
In easily the biggest upset in the five-year history of this student rugby tournament, the Madibaz edged the Shimlas 29-27 thanks to a last-second André Goosen try.
The Madibaz in fact scored two tries in the final three minutes to pull off a famous victory in the second round of the competition.
Maties pulled off something of a miracle victory themselves when they also won away courtesy of a late try - against the NWU-Pukke in Potchefstroom 14-12.
Defending champions UCT, suffered a 15-29 away defeat to the University of Johannesburg.
Tukkies won their Pretoria Derby against TUT by 40-0.
