Guinness World Record milestone for PE's Sharon Jessop

Facebook: Sharon Jessop

Sharon Jessop, an endurance athlete from Port Elizabeth, made history on Sunday when she completed a Guinness World Record 76 consecutive half marathons.

She set out on the 22nd of September, which was World Rhino Day,  on a Guinness World Record run attempt to run 101 consecutive half marathon distances.

By completing her 76th consecutive half marathon on the PE beachfront on Sunday 6 December, Jessop became the unofficial Guinness World Record Holder.

Jessop has already indicated that she is adamant to finish her 101 consecutive half marathons on the 31st of December when the final run will take place from Kragga Kamma Game Park just outside Port Elizabeth.

She’s tackling this project to raise awareness and funds for the One Land Love It Foundation for rhino conservation and anti-poaching and also for the Community Chest of the Eastern Cape.

Donations can be made via the Back-A-Buddy Campaign:

There was an outpouring of admiration,  well-wishes and congratulations for Jessop on Sunday after she literally ran into the record books.

In her own heartfelt social media post, Jessop gave a big thank you to everyone who had made half marathon #76 so special.

“As I am sitting her reminiscing about everything that transpired today I cannot help but feel quite emotional with the amazing support from all of you very amazing and special people,” she wrote.

“What can I say – I will certainly carry all this love and special energy forward with me over the next 25 days to see this through to 101 days of running half marathons.”
