Gqeberha local, Ruche Moodley, earned his first points in his first start in Moto3 finishing 11th in the Thai GP in his rookie season.
The teenager started in 19th place on the grid after a tough qualification at the Chang International Circuit in Buriram, Thailand, on Sunday.
Moodley earned five points in a hotly contested race which saw him slip to 21st and 22nd in the early stages.
The race was won by Jose Rueda, followed by Alvaro Carpe and Adrian Fernandez.
According to a bio on the MotoGP website, he raced in South Africa before moving to Europe in 2021 to the join European Talent Cup.
“The South African continued to impress, soon earning a spot on the Red Bull MotoGP™ Rookies Cup grid for the 2022 season.
“In 2023, the South African claimed his first podium in the European Talent Cup, with a successful campaign earning him a ride in the JuniorGP™ class at the final round.
“His promising performance led to a full-time JuniorGP™ ride in 2024, paving his way onto the 2025 Moto3™ World Championship grid after signing a deal with BOE Motorsports”.
