Former Eastern Province, Western Province and Stormers prop Morne van der Merwe passed away early this morning from brain cancer at the age of 39.
His brave mom Charleen told us it was tough to lose a child but that he was at peace now after a long two-year battle with the disease.
Van der Merwe was also part of the Norm Hewitt-captained team of 2000 who were the last Wellington (New Zealand) side to claim a national provincial championship (NPC) title.
