EP Rugby Union special meeting cancelled

SA Rugby confirmed that Saturdays planned special general meeting of the EP Rugby Union has been cancelled because constitutional requirements have not been met.

It had been anticipated that a motion of no-confidence in EPRU President Cheeky Watson would have been tabled by a number of disgruntled clubs within the Union at the meeting at the Nelson Mandela Bay Stadium.

SA Rugby's General Manager of Corporate Affairs, Andy Colquhoun, told AlgoaFM Sport, however,  that all the constitutional requirements for the submission  of a resolution had not been met.

He said any decisions taken at the meeting, would therefore not stand up in a court of law, if it ever came to that.

Colquhoun said there was no reason the special general meeting could not take place once all the constitutional requirements are in place.

SA Rugby took over the administration of the cash-strapped EP Rugby Union last week.

The EPRU faces a return date in the PE High Court on the 10th of May when it needs to show why a provisional liquidation order granted against it should not be made permanent.
