Eastern Cape sprinter makes history in Beijing

Jamaica's Usain Bolt ran the fastest time of the year in 19.55 seconds to win the world 200 metres title for a record fourth time and sweep the individual sprints at a major global championships for a fifth time on Thursday.

Five days after beating Justin Gatlin to win the 100 metres, the 29-year-old Olympic champion and world record holder again proved too strong for the in-form American, who finished second in 19.74 seconds.

23 year old Anaso Jobodwana, who hails from Phakamisa near King William's Town,  took bronze in 19.87 for South Africa.

The victory gave Bolt a record-extending 10th world championship gold medal and he could yet win an 11th as part of Jamaica's 4x100 metre relay team on Saturday.

The NMMU athletics club in Port Elizabeth is celebrating Jobodwana's effort which was a new South African record and also marked the first time he'd run under 20 seconds.

Although he is studying in the United States, Anaso is a member of the Madibaz Athletics Club - as per the requirements of Athletics South Africa for when he competes on home soil.

NMMU Athletics Club sports manager Nellis Bothma says Anaso has brought tremendous hounor to his club, province and country and that they're tremendously proud of his achievement.
