DJ Rassie unleashes the disco lights

Rassie Erasmus pulled out one of his old plays from his Free State days as the Springboks started their World Cup campaign with a victory over Scotland on Sunday.

Tries from Pieter-Steph du Toit and Kurt-Lee Arendse helped the Springboks claim a 15-point win against Scotland in their World Cup opener in Marseille.

The Springboks only led by three points after a tight first half saw the defending champions struggle to capitalise on their opportunities.

During the first half, Erasmus and assistant coach Felix Jones caught the attention of the cameras by communicating from the box using coloured lights.

Erasmus famously used similar tactics during his days as head coach of the Free State Cheetahs over a decade ago.

In the 2006 Currie Cup, Erasmus stirred controversy by initially using coloured cards and then switching to colour-coded lamps on top of the Free State Stadium to communicate with his players.

Erasmus was also spotted using cones to send signals to the Springboks during the warm-up match against Wales in Cardiff.
