South Africa's most in-form backline player JP Pietersen has been laid low by a hand injury which will sideline him for the next 2 months.
Springbok coach Heyneke Meyer said Pietersen will be hard to replace in the up-coming Rugby Championship against Australia, New Zealand and Argentina.
Springbok team doctor Craig Roberts has confirmed that Pietersen broke a thumb in the Sharks Super Rugby final loss to the Chiefs and will be out for 6-8 weeks.
As a result, Juan de Jongh has been thrown a lifeline by Meyer and will join the squad ahead of the first test against Argenina at Newlands on the 18th of August.
