Cricket South Africa (CSA) has decided to relieve David Teeger as the SA U19 captain due to security concerns.
South Africa was named by the International Cricket Council (ICC) last year to host the U19 Men's Cricket World Cup after Sri Lanka was suspended.
CSA says they receive regular security and risk updates and have been advised that protests related to the war in Gaza can be anticipated at the venues of the tournament.
In a statement issued on Friday, CSA said they have a primary duty to safeguard the interests and safety of all those involved and cannot take the risk of possible violence.
CSA says the decision is in everybody's best interest, including Teeger's who will remain an important and active member of the squad.
In October last year, Teeger won the Absa Jewish Achievers Awards where he made an acceptance speech that caused a media storm.
The U19 World Cup commences on 19 January with the first match being played in Potchefstroom.
